Eating Disorders

Dr. Nicolle is here to guide your journey to recovery.

Eating disorders are a serious and complicated disturbance in eating behavior and create intense distress about body image, weight and self-esteem. There are several types of eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED). Many individuals begin struggling during adolescents but we are finding an increasing number of young children and older adults with difficulty. Eating disorders affect people of any age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity and class. Often, the eating disorder problems go unnoticed for some time and it is also possible for the eating behaviors to change over time.

Eating disorders are not about food. Individuals suffering use the food and behaviors as a way to cope with a variety of Biopsychosocial issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, self-injury, addiction, negative voices/distorted self-perception, negative self-esteem, guilt, power and environmental triggers and pressures. It is important for individuals and families to know there is hope—ways to manage through life without an eating disorder. Recovery is possible!
